2016 Slingshot Wave SST Review

Sizes Tested(m): 7, 9, 12
Sizes Available(m):  6, 8, 10, 12
Control Bar: Compstick

Test Review Synopsis:  Unrivalled surf-specific build, park-and-slash master with tons of depower and quick pivots.

The Good Stuff: The Wave SST is a wave-specific design with a compact and direct bridle system on a similar, compact, C-canopy shape to the RPM. The Wave SST has great depower and pivotal turns and its wide wingtips ensure you can initiate turns at any angle of attack. It comes across the window with smooth and fast pull, and can stall and drift down the line with great balance and feedback. The robust build, split-strut technology and the added grid panelling gives you the confidence to push the limits without worrying about crashing the kite hard. The bridles are compact and their placement ensures they can’t wrap up in the wingtips even after some rinsing in the waves. Water relaunch is reliable and the shape and bridles get the kite airborne quickly. The SST also offers great depower and cushiony pull that’s perfect for foil boarding or getting into directional riding.

The Trade Off: Not a lot of size options and slightly less low end than some of the high powered designs.

Best For: Dedicated wave riders that want a kite that will take the punishment of heavy surf and be a reliable down-the-line drift machine.
