In this interview, Fred Hope, professional kiteboarder, introduces Slingshot’s latest innovation, the One Lock System, which is currently topping the charts as one of the best new products at the show. This new system is a game-changer for multiple foil sports, including winging, kiteboarding, and dock starting. The One Lock system eliminates the need for screws, creating a faster, more efficient assembly process while minimizing corrosion and drag, offering a smooth ride across various disciplines.
Fred highlights the One Lock System, which uses a simple latch mechanism that securely locks the stabilizer and front wing in place. The system is designed to stay tight over time, preventing any loosening during use, and eliminating the issues of screws stripping or parts corroding. It also reduces drag by having only two seams on the foil, resulting in a smoother, more streamlined ride.
Additionally, Fred explains the three mast series available in Slingshot’s lineup—high modulus, carbon, and aluminum—all optimized for different riding speeds. Notably, the aluminum mast is only 100 grams heavier than the carbon mast, making it a great entry point for foilers without sacrificing performance.
The product lineup also includes three foil series:
- Glide: optimized for a smooth ride with reduced drag.
- Ease: tailored for lighter wing riders and wake foilers.
- Kite Series: Fred’s favorite, with a higher aspect ratio for more glide and speed control.
Fred also discusses the RTS kit, which allows for quick attachment and removal of the foil from the board, along with customizable packages for beginners and advanced riders. These packages offer ease of use and affordability, making it easier for newcomers to enter the sport without confusion.
Slingshot’s focus on refining the internal geometry of their foils over the last few years has resulted in a system that solves long-standing issues in foiling, delivering high performance and user-friendly design across all levels of riders.
Fred’s excitement for the future of the One Lock System and its versatility is clear, and Slingshot’s attention to rider experience and problem-solving puts them at the forefront of foil technology for 2025.
