You know those big dunes in Brazil where people kite and take the epic photos? That place is called Atins! In today’s video I’m going to give you the run-down of the destination so you can see for yourself if it’s worth making the trek out there!
Atins Kiteboarding Spot Guide: Get High with Mike’s Take
Location: Atins, with daily trips to Lansoise Maranensis Nature Reserve
Wind Conditions:
- Average: 15-25 knots
- Note: Wind can be gusty due to the dunes but is manageable.
Recommended Kites:
- 10 XR7 for average days.
- 13.5 XR7 for lighter wind days.
Best Season:
- July to September. This period follows the rainy season, ensuring full lagoons and optimal wind.
How to Get There:
- Fly into Sao Luis airport and head to Yes, or drive to Barenas.
- From Barenas, it’s a picturesque 1-hour speedboat ride to Athens.
Accommodation:
- Approx. $50/night for a basic room (includes breakfast for two).
- Notable Mention: Rico Atins, a lovely hotel with friendly staff and good internet connectivity, making it remote-work friendly.
Special Attractions:
- Lansoise Maranensis Nature Reserve: Beautiful dunes, stunning lagoons, and abundant wildlife. However, you can’t stay overnight in the reserve.
- Atins itself: A quaint town boasting fantastic restaurants and, occasionally, outstanding live music.
Additional Costs:
- Speedboat: $140 for two.
- 4x4s: Required to get from Atins to the Nature Reserve. They can be on the pricey side.
Tips:
- Atins can be costly, so bring friends to split costs.
- Basic amenities are available in Atins, but for specialized needs, stock up in Barenas before the speedboat trip.
- Internet connectivity is surprisingly decent. Remote workers can manage their tasks and even Zoom calls.
- Photographers, prepare to be amazed by the scenery!
Mike’s Verdict: Atins is worth visiting at least once for its unique charm and stunning landscapes. However, the accessibility issues might make repeat visits less appealing unless you’re in search of the perfect photo or a calm getaway.
