Join Jason Van Der Spuy and Luca Ceruti in a 4 part series showcasing their 4 favorite spots to ride. It’s a really awesome project that they have been working on with Nomadicsea this past season in Cape Town.
In the ever-evolving world of adventure sports, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype and hyperbole often surrounding popular destinations and activities. Yet, in the realm of kiteboarding, there’s a common misconception that only the most well-known spots are worth the visit, such as the renowned Blouberg, celebrated for hosting the prestigious Red Bull King of the Air competition. This, however, barely scratches the surface of what’s available. The real magic lies in the plethora of lesser-known locations that offer unparalleled kiteboarding experiences. Over the course of this four-part series, we’ll explore four of these hidden gems, beginning with a spot just four hours up the East Coast. This location boasts exceptionally flat waters and ideal conditions for those looking to advance their skills, particularly at the picturesque Witsand, Breede River.
Our journey starts with an equipment check: nine for some, four kites, and a six for doubling up, anticipating varying wind conditions. Our goal? To demonstrate the full potential of this spot through a blend of technical big air maneuvers and impressive jumps. The focus will be on showcasing the unique characteristics that make each location special, starting with the unparalleled flat-water conditions perfect for pushing the limits of what’s possible on a kiteboard.
The narrative then shifts to a personal adventure, highlighting the sheer joy and exhilaration of kiteboarding in such a pristine environment. The warmth of the water, the consistency of the wind, and the unique geographical features contribute to a kiteboarding experience unlike any other. Yet, the adventure is not without its challenges, from equipment malfunctions to the physical toll of the sport. Despite these, the spirit of adventure and the camaraderie among kiteboarders prevail, making every moment on the water unforgettable.
As we prepare to venture to our next destination, Massa, it’s important to note the inherent risks and the need for caution. Unlike the more commercialized spots, Massa offers a raw and untamed kiteboarding experience, dictated by the whims of nature. It’s a reminder of the importance of respecting the environment and the local communities that share these treasured spots with us.
In sum, this series is more than just a guide to kiteboarding locations; it’s an invitation to explore the unseen and embrace the unpredictable, celebrating the beauty and thrill of kiteboarding in its purest form. Join us as we journey through these hidden paradises, where every session is an opportunity to discover something new about the sport, the world, and ourselves.
